Blue Screen ( BSOD) Kernel 41 0x8000000000000002  HELP!!!
I basically upgraded from Windows XP around 2 days ago and I've been suffering from irregular BSOD which appear to have no pattern ( sometimes it happens after 20 minutes sometimes after 5 hours) I've updated all the drivers I'm aware of including all chipset drivers and BIOS to latest Win7 drivers and still a no go. Things that could be causing it could be memory, before I installed Windows 7 I formatted my HDD and cleaned out my case so I could install some new hardware I was saving until I installed the new OS they were an XFX GTX 260 Black Edition ( the 55nm one) and an additional 2GB of memory which weren't the EXACT same memory I was using before but it was the same Corsair brand with similar product codes but they were running at diff CAS latencies which to my knowledge doesn't matter as it then runs to the lowest speed. i also upgraded my PSU to a Corsair TX 750. I can't honestly see if it is a software problem now so I'm guessing maybe I have some corrupted Hardware I'd appreciate it if you went over my dumps to see if you could help; BODY{font:x-small 'Verdana';margin-right:1.5em} .c{cursor:hand} .b{color:red;font-family:'Courier New';font-weight:bold;text-decoration:none} .e{margin-left:1em;text-indent:-1em;margin-right:1em} .k{margin-left:1em;text-indent:-1em;margin-right:1em} .t{color:#990000} .xt{color:#990099} .ns{color:red} .dt{color:green} .m{color:blue} .tx{font-weight:bold} .db{text-indent:0px;margin-left:1em;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;padding-left:.3em;border-left:1px solid #CCCCCC;font:small Courier} .di{font:small Courier} .d{color:blue} .pi{color:blue} .cb{text-indent:0px;margin-left:1em;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;padding-left:.3em;font:small Courier;color:#888888} .ci{font:small Courier;color:#888888} PRE{margin:0px;display:inline} - < Event xmlns =" http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event " > - < System > < Provider Name =" Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power " Guid =" {331C3B3A-2005-44C2-AC5E-77220C37D6B4} " /> < EventID > 41 </ EventID > < Version > 2 </ Version > < Level > 1 </ Level > < Task > 63 </ Task > < Opcode > 0 </ Opcode > < Keywords > 0x8000000000000002 </ Keywords > < TimeCreated SystemTime =" 2009-11-20T18:53:09.613600000Z " /> < EventRecordID > 4069 </ EventRecordID > < Correlation /> < Execution ProcessID =" 4 " ThreadID =" 8 " /> < Channel > System </ Channel > < Computer > SOTERIOU-PC </ Computer > < Security UserID =" S-1-5-18 " /> </ System > - < EventData > < Data Name =" BugcheckCode " > 190 </ Data > < Data Name =" BugcheckParameter1 " > 0xfffff88006060338 </ Data > < Data Name =" BugcheckParameter2 " > 0x12705b121 </ Data > < Data Name =" BugcheckParameter3 " > 0xfffff88002d34740 </ Data > < Data Name =" BugcheckParameter4 " > 0xb </ Data > < Data Name =" SleepInProgress " > false </ Data > < Data Name =" PowerButtonTimestamp " > 0 </ Data > </ EventData > </ Event > Thankyou in advance.

The minidump files seem to reference files related to the video card such as the nvlddmkm.sys and the dxgmms1.sys.Are you over-clocking any components such as the video card?

No its running stock. Could there be a fault with it in general? I ran windows memory diagnostic yday and it all came back good but I decided to put my newer ram in and take the older one out and see how it goes.
November 22nd, 2009 3:16pm

It could be the card but it could also be the physical RAM so replacing the physical RAM may help.

Oh ok. Is there anyway I can isolate the problem easier? For example if it is my graphics card I could maybe run a benchmarking programme and run some stress tests and if it starts locking up and bluescreening it would be safe to say its the graphics card? I also suffer from blurryness on Win7 since upgrading but I've read many issues on google where people have the same problem but not on older OS like Vista and XP.
November 22nd, 2009 3:43pm

Yes, you could run stress/stability tests on the card. However, there should not be any blurriness. What video card do you have? Can you swap out the card?

I'm using a XFX GTX 260 Black Edition ( the 55nm one) and my PSU is a Corsair TX 750 so theres definately enough power as I have next to no peripherals and it gives enough power on the 12v rail for my card. As for the blurryness its best described in this link; http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7desktop/thread/99dd1318-31e1-4489-b2f8-e95e098a274b I can't comment on if my graphics card displayed fine on XP ( the OS I was using before) because I formatted my drive then installed some new memory and new GPU and PSU. I'm going to run 3DMark Vantage I'll get back to you with the results, and thankyou very much for the help you're offering.
November 22nd, 2009 4:00pm

I just tried my GPU in XP and its still blurry... could that basically imply that my GPU is the culprit? My monitor is VGA and my card is DVI so I'm using an adaptor to plug it VGA to VGA ( I tried different adaptors they both still have the blurryness) I'm gonna swap out the cards and use my old 6800GT and see if there is any noticeable difference and maybe try my HDTV's HDMI slot to see if picture quality changes when i go DVI > HDMI instead of DVI > VGA, after all DVI is digital and VGA is analogue so it might be causing picture interference right? if not then maybe you were right in the first instance and my GPU is the culprit for the BSOD and the reason for the blurryness in my screen. Would like to here your input on the situation.

What monitor do you have? VGA should still give good quality. You probably have already, but did you use the auto-adjust setting on the monitorto optimize the display? Is it just text that is blurry? Also, it may be a good idea to test with another card. If you do so. uninstall the graphic drivers, then swap out the card, then reinstall the latest version of graphicdrivers.
November 23rd, 2009 5:44am

After checking the mini.dup file, I also think our issue is caused by the Graphic card driver. At this point, it's better to replace the current Graphic card, please make sure to remove the old graphiccard drivers from the computer completely, then replace the card, and install the newest driver for your old 6800GTGraphic card. Ok guys the BSOD have gone now, but I still get BSOD when I have the extra memory in so they must just not run well together ( even though they are the same model and speed just different CAS latencies :S) So I took out the memory and left my new 2GB memory in and installed my old GPU and all seems well as I've had no BSOD to speak of for a while now and the screen is crystal clear :) At this moment in time I'm going to give the memory which doesn't run well on my PC to a friend ( Its good as far as I know windows memtest and memtest86 come back fine after a good 5 hours of testing each one seperately and together) and I'm going to buy another pair of the one I bought recently which should work no problems unless I'm unlucky with faulty hardware again. I also contacted my retailer about replacing my GPU hopefully and maybe get it replaced with a similarly priced card ( 160/$265) I've sort of lost faith with XFX the build quality wasn't great if I'm honest and I would have much prefered the EVGA SSC brand of the GTX 260 chipset but its hard to get hold of in the UK for some reason. I was wondering about jumping ship and getting an ATI card which I haven't done before... I don't suppose you could suggest a card of equal price and quality I could pick up maybe? The websites I use are usually overclockers.co.uk, ebuyer.co.uk and scan.co.uk ( I bought my GPU from scan.co.uk) Thanks again for your help guys I REALLY appreciate it :)

Windows is very sensitive to memory timing. Best best is to use pairs from the same batch. I see this type of problem a lot.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! Yeah I guessed as much, I'm in the process of contacting XFX for tests on my GPU which sounds like its gonna be a long and annoying process until its resolved to be honest. Regardless I've already lined up a GPU to replace it which is http://overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-210-SP&tool=3

You can try to update the CHipset driver for our comptuer, then test if the two memory again. Once you get the new Graphic card, I suggest first logging into Safe Mode and then trying to uninstall your old display card driver, or the computer would not able to boot. For your convenience, I have included the steps below. Uninstall the sound card driver via Device Manager===========================================1. Click "Start", type DEVMGMT.MSC in the Search bar, and press Enter.Note: If UAC (User Account Control) window is prompted for permission to continue, please click Continue.2. Expand "Display Adapter".3. Right click on the graphic card driver you are using and click Uninstall.4. Check the option "Delete the driver software for this device" and click OK.5. Close the computer and replace your display card to the new one. Please restart the computer and then Windows 7 will load the graphic card driver automatically. Once we boot in the desktop, I recommend youinstalling the driver from the Manufacture driver CD or downloading from the driver from the ATI. I hope this would help you.John

Thanks for the guide but I'm already aware how to install/uninstall drivers properly. One step you missed out of that what I usually do tho is I boot up in safe mode and use DriverSweeper to uninstall all remnants of the previous display driver so its 100% clean of previous graphic drivers. Thanks for the help though guys :P
November 26th, 2009 8:31pm

Did you check you BIOS to be sure the memory timings are at auto? Also did your video card supplier get back to you? The latest drivers from NVIDIA work fine with GeForce 6 series and higher, so if the minidump shows it is at fault, then I suggest replacing the card when you can afford it. Also, there has been some issues reported with the NVIDIA DisplayDriver Service. Can you try disabling this service and see if it makes a difference:Start > type services.msc in the "Search programs and files" box and press "Enter"> then, in the right window, scroll down to the NVIDIA Display Driver Service and double-click the NVIDIA Display Driver Service and set the "Startup type" to "Disabled" > OKRestart the computer

Thanks for the replies guys, I already sent my card off and there was a fault so I'm being given a full refund but I'm gonna use that money to buy some gifts for Christmas and a few nights out during the christmas period and new year. I'm gonna get an ATI card in the new year when there will most likely be sales. Thanks for all the help you guys are great and make things a lot easier for the public.
